Aerobic MBBR System
SECONDARY WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Aerobic MBBR System
Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) - Aerobic Wastewater Treatment for Secondary Processes
Clean Water Technology’s Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) is a efficient biological treatment process based on a combination of conventional activated sludge and CWT’s brand of biofilm media. This wastewater treatment process is ideally suited in a wide range of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment applications needing to remove nutrient and biological oxygen demand (BOD) and where water reuse is desired.
CWT’s MBBR plant requires 30% to 40% less space as compared to other conventional treatment systems. These wastewater treatment units require less site activity and are quick to install and commission. They are easy to maintain and require minimal upkeep and civil work.
How the CWT MBBR Works
Upstream screening removes large solids from the wastewater. An aeration tank containing the “moving’ carrier media collect chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand (COD/BOD). The biofilm media provide a large protected surface and optimal conditions to collect these bacterial cultures. Sludge is collected from the aeration tank and a secondary clarifier and sent to a Swingmill twin-screw press. A disinfection tank is treated with chlorine prior to a secondary clarifier – usually using CWT’s GEM® System as the secondary clarifier. The treated water, or effluent, is now ready for reuse.
When to use MBBR
Moving bed bioreactors effectively removes BOD, ammonia and nitrogen. The quality of the effluent depends on the amount of media in the reactor, the surface area of that media and the amount of turbulence in the water.

Clean water is our mission. Since water is a vital resource, we believe clean water should be everyone’s mission.
